Kenya, a PPS PEP graduate, heaved a sigh of relief when she learned in PEP that her son COULD graduate despite not passing one of the required state tests. New options for graduation were approved by her state’s board of education and Kenya was among the first to learn about them, thanks to her PEP involvement. Already active in her school district, Kenya felt more effective in dealing with school personnel and advocating for her child thanks to the skills she learned in PEP. After a family tragedy nearly derailed her son’s path to graduation, Kenya encouraged him to finish school. He received a standing ovation at graduation!
