J. Strong and S. Jones, graduates of a 2009 PPS parent training class, have been fired up to help students in their community ever since graduation. They first launched a program for high school students to tutor and mentor 6th graders who were struggling academically, meeting over breakfast once a week at school. Following the success of that multi-year program, they decided to tackle another concern: kindergarten students arriving woefully unprepared for school. This dynamic duo raised funds, recruited volunteers, and for the last 4 years, they have offered a summer enrichment program at the small local library 3 days a week for 6 weeks. Since its inception, the program has doubled in size and outgrown its host facility; the 2018 group will be meeting at the elementary school.
