(JACKSON, MS) Parents for Public Schools® (PPS) is proud to announce its partnership with AT&T—an effort that will benefit families across the state of Mississippi in bridging the digital divide. As a result of this collaboration, PPS will distribute 125 laptops provided by AT&T and Human IT/Compudopt.
Further, AT&T has also awarded PPS a $31,000 grant to support digital literacy training for families. The training sessions, which will be held in Moss Point, Leflore County, and Philadephia, Mississippi, will assist participating families in enhancing their technological skills and gain access to essential digital resources.
“Ensuring families have the necessary equipment and training to navigate the internet is essential for their success in the digital age,” said Joann Mickens, Executive Director of Parents for Public Schools. “This partnership is about more than technology; it’s about empowering families to thrive in an increasingly connected world.”
This initiative addresses a critical issue in Mississippi, where an estimated 19% of households lack internet access or connected devices, limiting opportunities for education, employment, and community engagement. The laptop distribution and training sessions will provide families with tools to overcome these barriers and fully participate in today’s digital economy.
The effort is part of AT&T Connected Learning®, a national initiative to tackle the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability, and digital adoption. AT&T has committed $5 billion to connect 25 million people to high-speed internet by 2030.
“AT&T is proud to partner with Parents for Public Schools to help close the digital equity gap in Mississippi,” said Michael Walker, Vice President, AT&T Mississippi. “Access to technology and connectivity is vital for families, and we are honored to provide these essential resources.”
